Things I love about my art business fox painting

Being your own boss is not always easy. It comes with both benefits and disadvantages but overall it is an amazing experience!

Doing what you love for a living is a dream for most people. When you are an entrepreneur or small business owner, you get to work toward that dream a little bit every day. It’s a pretty wild feeling! When I started my art business, I never would have thought it would bring so much positivity into my life.

If you’re working full-time but are thinking of starting your own small business, be sure to check these tips to start a small business while working a full-time job. Being your own boss is worth the hard work and dedication!

Here are 10 things I love about my art business.

1. Doing what I love

I get to do what I love for a living and this makes me incredibly happy. Happiness can come from many places, but having a job you actually love is a blissful feeling. I earn money through my passion and I grow in the best possible way. Every day is a wonderful adventure and I am excited to get up in the morning.

2. Choosing my own focus

I can concentrate on things that I am truly interested in. For me, that’s of course animals. I decided to make them the core of my artworks. I have always loved nature and animals, and being able to paint and draw this subject every day is wonderful. Being your own boss allows you to pursue topics that interest you. You get to dictate the direction your business takes.

3. Concentrating on my strengths

I can focus on what I am good at, which is working with colors in my case. I am incredibly bad at drawing from the mind, I always need a reference picture. And that’s perfectly fine! Instead of spending hours drawing and correcting an artwork that will never look great, I allow myself to use reference pictures freely and work on improving my color skills instead, which is what I love doing. When you’re an entrepreneur with your own business, you can decide how to spend your time.

4. Setting my own hours

Being your own boss allows you to work whenever you want. I have of course things to do by a certain date, but most of these deadlines are originally set by me. I know what I have to accomplish every day and I can decide if I’d rather work early in the morning, or late at night. Having flexible hours allows for incredible freedom in your life. You can make time for friends, family, and most importantly, self-care.

5. I get to make people happy

Every time someone orders something from one of my shops, I know it will make someone happy. Whether it’s the person that ordered or the one they intend to gift the item to. And especially, every single time I receive an order for a pet portrait, I get incredibly excited at the idea of making a pet owner happy. When they tell me how much they love it, it absolutely makes my day! I love getting to paint other people’s pet and see their pictures and happy reviews.

6. Sharing my art with the world

Seeing my art printed on all kinds of products and seeing them in other people’s hand is incredibly gratifying. It makes all the hard work worth it. I pour my soul into my paintings and my business and having people buy from me from all around the world is ecstatic. What I do is unique and I get to share my art with the world.

7. It fuels my creativity

Being my own boss and having my own creative business allows me to concentrate on what really matters to me thus fueling my creativity. I can try new ideas as they come to me. I can unleash my creativity without fear. What I make is completely up to me and nobody can tell me how to do something. Artists need the freedom to create.

8. Being responsible

Success or failure are only up to me. I had to learn about marketing, laws and taxes, marketing, and so on, all on my own. There was no one I could possibly blame if it didn’t work out. The outcome of my business endeavor was only up to me. Consequently, when you are your own boss, you have an astonishing amount of responsibility, and I personally enjoy this.

9. Every day is different

No two days are the same. I create something new every day. Monotony does not exist. There is always something new to learn or a new technique to try. The art and business worlds are forever evolving and it’s necessary to keep up with the changes, whether they are technical, such as SEO and websites building related, or creative, such as trends. Every single day is different than the last.

10. Connecting with like-minded people

Connecting with other like-minded creatives and entrepreneurs is wonderful. I discover new artists I love every day and I love virtually meeting new people that are on the same journey as I am. We are each unique and we each have different goals and dreams but we are unified by a common passion: being our own boss and creating our own small business.
