Creativity is a skill that can be improved. When you’ve hit a wall, there are ways to get the creative spark burning again. Whether you’re an artist, a crafter, designer, writer, or any type of business owner, these tips are for you. Here are my top 10 things to do to inspire creativity.

You can also read my post on how to stay creative in the winter for more tips.

1.Take a walk

Art is everywhere. The graffiti on the wall, the architecture of that building, the color of the sky. Taking a walk and changing environment will help you clear your head. It’s a great thing to do to inspire creativity. Take in your surrounding and relax.

2. Write a list

Jot down some ideas. Writing a list will help you organizing your mind and break through your creative self. When I’m looking for subjects to write about on this blog, I do some research and I write down whatever comes to mind. When I’ve come up with several different topics, usually inspiration will hit me and I will be able to pick a topic and start writing. And I can come back to the list later when I am in need of another idea.

3. Don’t be afraid of failure

If an idea comes to you, follow it. See where it’ll take you and don’t be afraid it won’t work. Try, and you fail it’s okay, start again. Fear of failure can be immobilizing and if you let it grow you may miss out on a lot of opportunities.Think positively and accept failure as a learning experience.

4. Learn something new

Never stop learning. And not only about things in your field. You may be surprised by the connections your mind will make between two seemingly unrelated topics. Learning new things can spark your creative energy.

5. Read a book

Whether it’s a fiction or non-fiction, a novel, a magazine, or even a poem, pick up a book and start reading. Inspiration can come from anywhere and turning and authors are incredibly creative individual. Reading their work may inspire the creativity in your own self.

6. Exercise

The mind and the body are both equally important. Feed both. Exercise clears your mind, brings clarity, and you will also get better sleep. I used to hate exercising but ever since I started going to the gym on a regular basis, my quality of life tremendously improved. I feel more confident, motivated, and much more creative!

7. Talk to a friend

Getting an other point of view is beneficial. It will broaden your mind and it may just be that other perspective you needed to inspire creativity. If you have the beginning of an idea, try running it by some friends ans ask for their advice.

8. Browse Pinterest

Pinterest is full of beautiful images and it’s my favorite place to go when I feel out of ideas. It’s a great way to inspire creativity. It became my creative board. When you pin images you like, Pinterest will show you more of that same style. My feed is incredibly colorful! Follow me there for daily colorful inspiration!

9. Browse Instagram

Much like Pinterest, Instagram is a great social media for inspiration if you are following the right people. It’s full of talented artists, designers, and photographers. You can also just browse a hashtag you like and see what people are posting. Full of creativity! Follow me to see animal art everyday!

10. Start creating

Sometimes, you have to force creativity to come out. Unlike what some people think, creative inspiration is not an ability awarded to only a handful lucky gifted people, it is within everyone’s reach and has to be cultivated. Sometimes, you have to start doing before the creative spark hits you. Get your paintbrushes out and start painting. Get your computer out and start writing. Just do.
